As about 60 families continue to live in tents in Nabavatu Village, Vanua Levu following the devastating effects of Tropical Cyclone Ana in 2021, there is confirmation that 10 houses are expected to be completed by next month.

Minister for Rural and Maritime Development, Sakiasi Ditoka, confirmed this to fijivillage News when asked about the expected completion of the project.

Following the destruction of their homes in a landslip, the villagers have been temporarily residing at the local Assemblies of God Church compound.

Ditoka says their plan is to complete 17 houses next year.

He highlighted that one of the main causes of delay is the soil moisture content, which has affected the pace of construction.

Ditoka adds they are following advice from civil engineers regarding the construction of the planned concrete houses.
