MOH working on having mental health treatment in divisional hospitals
The Ministry of Health together with St Giles Hospital is working on having specialized treatment and doctors at divisional health centres in the country for mental health treatment.

St Giles Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Peni Biukoto said they have opened up mental health units around the country but are aiming to have the services at St Giles hospital in these divisional health centres with specialized doctors.

Dr. Biukoto said it is their 5-10 year plan to see these services available at the divisional health centres.

He said St Giles hospital in Suva will remain for people to use as their last resort.

The country only has Saint Giles Hospital for mental health patients.

All other divisions only have stress management wards.

Fijivillage has received reports from some families that they cannot bring their loved ones to Saint Giles Hospital due to funding and other issues.

Some are sent back from the hospital after some time and they cannot come back for medicine or future admission due to funding.
