The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side lost to the USA 40-14 in the final quarter finals of the women's Valladolid 7s tournament.
The USA kicked off strong with three tries to Rachel Strasdas, Ariana Ramsey and Su Adegoke to lead 21-0.
Reapi Uluinasau gave Fiji some hope after scoring twice to close the gap 14-21.
The second half saw the Americans score another three tries to Kristi Kirshe, Sammy Sullivan and Alex Sedrick.
The Fijiana will face Spain on the seventh place playoff at 11.04pm today.
