Cyclone damage estimated at 20M
Two weeks after the country was ravaged by Tropical Cyclone Mick, rehabilitation work continues and the National Disaster Centre has put the amount of damage caused by Cyclone Mick at $20 million.

DISMAC Acting Director Pajiliai Dobui said that this is $5 million less than their initial estimates, adding their workers are still compiling reports.

Though not revealing more details, Dobui said that this takes into account the destruction of farms, houses, as well as infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Red Cross Society is now focusing their relief assistance to those staying in squatter settlements who at the moment are still facing issues with their water supply.

Disaster Coordinator Vuli Gauna said that they are have identified families living in 24 squatter settlements and said that these families are in need of immediate assistance as whatever supply they had was contaminated as a result of flood waters from Tropical Cyclone Mick.

Gauna said these families are being given hygiene packs as well as water as they need urgent clean drinking water.
