Thousands of residents living along the Suva-Nausori corridor continue to experience low water pressure or intermittent water supply, and the Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that water restoration will take slightly longer due to delays in completing repair works and restoration activities.

WAF says heavy rain overnight and deteriorating ground conditions have caused slight delays to critical repair works on the DN 600 trunk main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir.

The Authority says repair works had been progressing well and remained on schedule until midnight. However, the repair site became waterlogged and soggy following the rain, affecting work on-site.

The new anticipated timeframe for the completion of repair works is now scheduled for 12 midday today.

WAF says the additional precautions are necessary to ensure repairs are carried out to the required quality standards while also prioritising the health and safety of staff and contractors working under challenging weather conditions.

WAF reassured residents that approximately 60 percent inflow to the Wainibuku Reservoir and other dependent reservoirs is still being maintained, as two out of the three trunk mains between the Waila Water Treatment Plant and Wainibuku Reservoir remain operational.

The Authority says it will continue working to expedite repairs and restore normal water supply services within the planned timeframe, subject to weather and site conditions.

WAF also says water carting trucks remain on standby throughout the interruption period to assist affected customers.
