The Water Authority of Fiji is working to complete repairs to the critical DN 600 trunk main from the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir as quickly as possible, however, works have been delayed due to heavy rain.

WAF says the restoration period may take longer than expected, as repair works were initially anticipated to be completed by 12pm today.

The Authority says heavy rainfall overnight and deteriorating ground conditions at the repair site, which is now waterlogged and soggy, have affected progress on the repairs.

WAF says additional precautions are necessary to ensure repairs are carried out to the required quality standards while also prioritising the health and safety of staff and contractors working under challenging weather conditions.

While repair works continue, WAF says approximately 60 percent inflow to the Wainibuku Reservoir and other dependent reservoirs is still being maintained, as two out of the three trunk mains between the Waila Water Treatment Plant and the Wainibuku Reservoir remain operational.

The Authority says it will continue efforts to expedite repairs and restore normal water supply services within the planned timeframe, subject to weather and site conditions.

WAF also stressed that water carting trucks remain on standby throughout the interruption period to assist affected customers.
