Please get tested for the HIV virus so your child can have a future.
This is the plea from CWM Senior Medical Officer Pediatric Department, Dr Ilisapeci Vereti, who said seeing two babies die this year, as a result of the mothers refusal to get tested for HIV early on during their pregnancy is regrettable, as the two children could have been given a chance to live.
Vereti said it is important that expecting mothers come in early to get tested.
She adds she has seen 20 children with HIV, the eldest who is only 13 years old, and it is a heart wrenching experience as they are so young.
Vereti said since 2005 four children have died from HIV/AIDS, with more children being suspected cases.
Stakeholders will today convene at the Novotel Convention Centre in Lami to discuss Fiji's draft HIV Prevention and Treatment Decree, which is scheduled to be tabled again in cabinet in February next year.
