Fencing project underway at Govt House

The Government House which is the official residence of Fiji's President is currently undergoing development with a major fencing project underway.

The President's Office confirmed that the fencing project has started with Chinese workers already carrying out the upgrade work from this week.

Permanent Secretary Joeli Rokovada said the construction work will also include the upgrade of the fence around Government House.

Rokovada added that the upgrade work is being carried out as the fence has never been upgraded since it was constructed a very long time ago and that an upgrade was long overdue.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy also confirmed that they are assisting the Fiji Government in the project.

Spokesperson for the Embassy and Director Political Section, Guo Dazhi said the fencing project has already started and will last for 9 months, with the approximate cost sitting at $2.2 million.

Dazhi also revealed that the cost of construction will be handled by China and there is no liability cost to Fiji.

On the style of fencing, Dahzi said the final fence would look decent and nice and that it is going to look better than the current fence.

He stressed that the final design was agreed upon by the Fiji Government.

The 2,448 metre fence will also include the fencing of Thurston Garden after which a handing over ceremony will take place.
