Foundation for the education helps the needy children

The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji has found in a survey that the poorest of the poor students live in squatter settlements and cane belt areas around the country.

Foundation Coordinator, Irshad Ali said labourers, factory worker's and other low income employment are found to be the poorest that need immediate assistance so that they are able to attend school.

According to Ali in some farming communities in Vanua Levu, they have seen a trend that husband's that are farm laborers leave their wives behind with children.

He said as land leases expire, wives and children have no place to go and they end up in poverty.

Ali said they have identified 1011 students who will be assisted by the Foundation this in term of school stationery and other expenses.
