Walker confident Fijiana 7s can beat any team with strong defence

If we get the defence right, we can beat any team in the world.

These are the words of the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s coach Richard Walker as his team prepares to face tough opponents in their pool matches this weekend.

Walker says a key takeaway from the Singapore 7s was that the team started executing their game plan, attacking forward and forcing other teams to retreat on defence.

The head coach added that the team is focusing heavily on their defence for this weekend’s tournament.

He further praised Adi Salote Nailolo and Alfreda Fisher, calling them smart rugby players who carry the ball effectively.

Walker explained that the reason he brought Fisher onto the squad was for her defensive skills.

He says coming from her role as an blindside flanker in 15s, she knows how crucial that position is for creating turnovers at rucks.

He adds that she has been delivering well in that role.

The Fijiana team will take on the USA this afternoon at 2.30, they then meet New Zealand at 5.58pm before facing Japan at 8.52pm.

The women's Cup semi finals are tomorrow at 4.13pm with the Cup final later that evening at 8.28pm.
