Ronaldo targets 1,000th career goal before retirement

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo says he will not end his playing career until he scores his 1,000th career goal.

The 40-year-old has 956 goals for club and country so far.

Speaking after being named Best Middle East Player at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, Ronaldo says his motivation to continue remains strong.

He says it is hard to keep playing, but he is motivated; his passion is high; he wants to win trophies and reach that number, and if there are no injuries, he will definitely get there.

Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in 2022, signed a new two-year contract last July that will keep him at the Saudi Pro League club beyond his 42nd birthday.

He has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances this season, with Al-Nassr currently four points clear at the top of the league.

Despite his prolific form, Al-Nassr have won just one trophy since his arrival, the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.

Ronaldo is the all-time leading scorer for Portugal with 143 goals and for Real Madrid with 450, and is the only player to score more than 100 goals for four clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr.

He has previously said that the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be his final international tournament.

Ronaldo captained Portugal to their first major international title at Euro 2016 in France.
