To ensure the safety of players and supporters turning up to the 50th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, the organisers have tightened their security by having officers from the Fiji Police Force, the Fiji Corrections Service, the Fiji Navy, and Grid Security to provide support during the three-day event.

Marist Club President Lawrence Tikaram says they are working very closely with the Police and are very confident with the services that they have been providing, not only for this tournament but for all their tournaments.

He says their tournaments have been incident-free.

He adds that it is understandable that at times, things do heat up, but it is the responsibility of managers and coaches to speak to their teams.
A total of 130 teams have confirmed their participation for the Marist 7s, including 72 men’s teams, 12 women’s teams, 34 U21 teams, and 6 U18 boys’ and girls’ teams.

Defending men’s champions, Devo Babas, will be facing tough opponents in the tournament such as Police Blue and White, Yaro Chiefs, Army Green and Red, Ravuka Sharks, Ratu Filise Rugby, Wardens Gold and Green, Kasabias Village Boys, and Dominion Brothers.

The Marist 7s will kick off on Thursday with the women’s competition, while the men’s competition will start on Friday.

The finals will be held on Saturday.
