The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s strong defensive performance played a crucial role in their impressive win over the ACT Brumbies at 4R Stadium in Ba.
Speaking to fijivillage News after the Drua’s thrilling 42–27 victory, Coach Glen Jackson praised his players for their defensive effort against a strong Brumbies side.
Although the visitors performed well and dominated possession and territory in the first half, they were not clinical enough to convert their opportunities into points.
Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham admitted that the Drua outplayed his side and were simply too good throughout the full 80 minutes.
Larkham says his players were not clinical enough and made several basic errors that ultimately cost them the match.
He also acknowledged the Drua’s outstanding performance, saying they played like a champion side and deserved the win.
Drua captain Frank Lomani thanked the supporters who turned up in large numbers to back the team.
He says the players knew fans had been at the venue since 9am and they were determined not to disappoint them.
Lomani said he was proud of the team’s performance and how well they executed their game plan.
He added that securing a second home win has greatly lifted the team’s spirits.
The Drua will face the Queensland Reds at 3.35pm Saturday in Lautoka.
