Extra Bula FC announced their arrival on the regional stage with a 2–all draw against Vanuatu United FC in their OFC Pro League debut at Eden Park in Auckland, showing they are no pushovers in the competition.
The historic debut did not begin easily for the Fijian side, as Vanuatu United took an early lead through Alex Saniel in the 21st minute.
But the response was swift and electric, and just 10 minutes later, Fijian football icon Roy Krishna showed his class, scoring the equaliser to level the match at 1–all heading into half-time.
The second half was a tense battle, with both teams pushing hard for a breakthrough.
Vanuatu United created several dangerous chances, but French goalkeeper Didier Desprez stood tall for Bula FC, making crucial saves to keep his side in contention.
Bula FC eventually took the lead when Nabil Begg scored a goal, sending the Fijian fans into celebration.
However, the drama wasn’t over.
In the dying minutes, Vanuatu’s William Cardona scored a goal, levelling the match and ensuring both sides shared the spoils.
Despite not securing all three points, Extra Bula FC’s performance sent a strong message, they are ready to compete with the region’s best.
In other matches at Eden Park, Auckland FC will face South Island United at 7 tonight, while Tahiti United will take on South Melbourne FC at midday, and PNG Hekari FC will play Solomon King FC at 4pm tomorrow.
