British Army hold Drua 7s to 10-all draw in Coral Coast 7s

It was a thrilling opening match in the McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s men’s competition, with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua 7s drawing 10-all with the British Army 7s team.

The Drua 7s went in as favourites, boasting former Fiji 7s national reps, Olympic medallists, and Drua players, but the British Army side matched them throughout the match.

Both teams scored a try each in the first half, and another try apiece in the second half, as neither side was able to break away.

The Drua 7s squad featured Elia Canakaivata, Joji Nasova, Isikeli Rabitu, Philip Baselala, Aisea Nawai, and Ilaisa Droasese.

In other men’s results, McDonald’s Mike Friday Select 7s defeated Axellerate Dominion Brothers 21-5, USA 7s beat Chennai Bulls Select 14-10, Yaro Chiefs thrashed Japan SDS 57-0 and International Sydney Fijians edged Pacific Warriors Canada 21-19.

In the youth competition this morning, Shogun Fiji Highlanders thrashed Japan SDS 31-7, Sunnybank Dragons defeated Aqua Pro Savuiqali 12-5, Birdland Brothers beat Village Boys 22-0, Axellerate Dominion Brothers drew 12-all with Coastal Tubarua Highlanders, while Taveuni Grassroots Fiji thrashed Sydney Bula 7s 31-0.

In the women’s results, China 2 defeated Briars 17-7, China 1 beat Lillian Amazon 26-17, and Fijiana 7s thrashed Manly Mermaids 42-0.
