Driver who nearly hit traffic officer allegedly offers $5 bribe
PC: Fiji Police Force

A police officer managing traffic yesterday morning was nearly struck by a driver who now faces an additional charge of alleged bribery.

Police say the suspect was directed to stop at the Matanikorovatu traffic lights but failed to comply, nearly causing an accident that could have injured the officer managing traffic at the time.

The driver was later stopped by the same officer and asked to produce his driving licence.

It is alleged that he handed over his licence with a $5 note folded underneath, urging the officer to accept the money.

The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Police say investigations are continuing.
