Team Fiji swimmer Samuel Yalimaiwai has set a new national record in the 50 metres breaststroke at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

The 22-year-old clocked 28.54 seconds, smashing the previous national record held by Taichi Vakasama since 2019.

The time also marked a personal best for Yalimaiwai, who says he is pleased with the result.

Yalimaiwai says he is really happy with the time, and he cannot complain after finishing second in his heat.

He adds that his next area of focus will be improving his start off the blocks.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Marseleima Moss also impressed in the women’s 50 metres backstroke, finishing second in her heat with a time of 32.43 seconds.

Moss bettered her personal best by 1.4 seconds.

The World Aquatics Championship will finish on Sunday.
