Despite being earlier disqualified in the 50m women’s breaststroke final, 14-year-old Anahira McCutcheon fought back to win silver for Team Fiji swimming in the 50m women's backstroke event last night finishing behind Malou Douillard of New Caledonia.

This is McCutcheon's second medal at the Pacific Games 2023 after helping her 4x100m women's freestyle relay team win bronze earlier this week.

McCutcheon says she was not expecting to win silver but she was happy to have attained it.

She says she was a bit nervous before the race and she wondered how she will go but she put everything into it.

McCutcheon says having her parents as well in the stands cheering her on really motivated her.

She dedicated her win to her mum supporting her in her training.

Meanwhile, 16-year-old Kelera Mudunasoko won her second silver medal for Team Fiji swimming after finishing second in the 50m women's breaststroke final behind Cook Islands, Lanihei Connolly.

Fiji is now in 14th place with 3 silver and 2 bronze in the overall Pacific Games Medal tally.

New Caledonia extends its lead at the top of the table with 17 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze, followed by Australia in 2nd place with 11 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze while Samoa is in 3rd place with 8 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.
