Vodafone Flying Fijians half back Nikola Matawalu has signed a new deal with the Exeter Chiefs.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes Matawalu can add some real ‘X‑Factor’ to his backline after he agreed a deal until the end of the season.

Matawalu will head to Sandy Park from Premiership rivals Bath and will join up with his new team‑mates once the current November Tests are concluded.

Equally at home either on the wing or at scrum‑half, Baxter believes the 27‑year‑old is a great addition to the Chiefs make‑up and is excited at what he can bring to the club moving forward.

Matawalu’s arrival will signal a fourth Fijian to have joined the Exeter Chiefs ranks during the Premiership era, following in the footsteps of Sireli Naqelevuki, Josh Matavesi and Nemani Nadolo.

Meanwhile the Flying Fijians coach John McKee is expected to name his side tomorrow to face the Barbarians at 8.30am Saturday.
