Cabinet shifts town infrastructure duties to Municipal Councils
The Cabinet has endorsed the transfer of responsibility for maintaining footpaths, streetlights, and natural waterways within town boundaries to Municipal Councils.

This shifts responsibilities from the Fiji Roads Authority and the Ministry responsible for Waterways, making Municipal Councils the main point of contact for residents.

Councils will now take the lead in looking after these services, allowing for quicker responses and better upkeep in towns and cities.

The change is expected to improve service delivery, streamline urban management, and ensure communities receive more timely maintenance and support.
