Petra Kvitova has advanced to her first grand slam semifinal since surviving a brutal knife attack by a burglar in her home town in the Czech Republic two years ago.
She beat local favourite Ashleigh Barty, 6‑1, 6‑4 in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Barely two years after being told she would likely never play again after having her left playing hand shredded in a vicious stabbing, Kvitova delivered a master class performance.
Kvitova says she did not really imagine being back in this great stadium and playing with the best and it's great.
She will play American Danielle Collins in the semifinal on Thursday.
