Joseva Tabakaucoro in doubt for Coca-Cola Games after pulling a hamstring

Joseva Tabakaucoro pulled a hamstring this morning at the Athletics Championships at the ANZ Stadium

Marist Brothers High School sprinter Joseva Tabakaucoro will take at least five weeks to recover from the hamstring injury he suffered this morning at the Shop N Save Easter Athletics Championships at the ANZ Stadium.

The youngster is likely to miss out on his last year in the Coca-Cola Games in three weeks time.

Looking at some of the results today, Francis Kirikirikula won the Men’s Open 100 metres with the time of 11.12 seconds while Shane Tuvusa of Natabua High School won the Under 20 100 metres with a time 11.22 seconds.

Heleina Young won the 100 and 400 metres final in the Open Girls category.

Young’s 100 metres time is 12.63 seconds while her time in the 400 metres is 57 seconds which gives her a chance to meet the World Youth Championship qualifying time of 55 seconds.

This is a perfect opportunity for Young as she has about nine weeks to reduce her time in the 400 metres.

Some of the schools that had their athletes participating in today’s competition include Adi Cakobau School, Saint Joseph’s Secondary School, Natabua High School, Suva Grammar School, QVS, RKS and Marist Brothers High School.

With the Melanesian Games and World Youth Games coming up, Athletics Fiji General Secretary Nemani Tukunia says they will select a team from this trial to represent Fiji at the Melanesian Games in May.

Tukunia adds that some of the potential athletes they have are Timoci Bolakoro, Livai Maravou, Heleina Young and Fane Sauvakacolo.

The 200 metres final is currently held the ANZ Stadium.
