$2.1 million allocated towards 7s preparation to the 2020 Olympic Games

$2.1 million was allocated in the 2019/2020 National Budget towards the preparation for the Men’s and Women’s 7s team to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Chairman of Fiji Sports Commission Peter Mazey says they are grateful that there is a fund allocated to the preparation of the National 7s teams.

He adds the $4 million allocated for the overseas sporting tours, will enable them to send the team to next year’s Olympic Games.

$650,000 has been allocated for the preparation of the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians campaign to the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Mazey says more than $3 million has also been allocated for the hosting of sports event in Fiji where $1.5 million will be used for hosting of the Oceania Rugby 7s tournament in November.

Mazey says there are also hoping to host another Super Rugby Game come next year.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports was allocated $19.9 million in the 2019/2020 National Budget.
