The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team got off to a strong start, with Vuiviawa Naduvalo scoring a brilliant opening try after slicing through the South African defense to give Fiji a 5-0 lead.
Kavekini Tanivanuakula added Fiji’s second try, extending the advantage to 12–0.
Fiji’s disciplined defense kept the Blitzboks at bay despite several attacking opportunities from the South Africans.
However, Naduvalo was shown a yellow card late in the half, and South Africa capitalized on the numerical advantage.
A well-executed cross-field kick led to their first try, reducing the deficit before halftime. 12-7.
The Blitzboks scored the opening try of the second half to take a 14–12 lead.
The match was fiercely contested, with both sides showing plenty of physicality and determination as they battled for a place in the semifinals.
South Africa was awarded a late penalty and managed the closing stages effectively, running down the clock to secure a hard-fought 14–12 victory and book their spot in the semifinals.
The cup semi final will be played later tonight.
In other results Australia defeated France 26-0, New Zealand thrashed Great Britan 24-5 and Spain defeated USA 17-5.
