The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team continued their strong form at the Bordeaux 7s, defeating Great Britain 26-12 in their second pool match this morning.
Fiji got off to a positive start when Filipe Sauturaga crossed for the opening try after capitalising on a knock-on to give his side an early lead.
A second try appeared imminent when George Bose set up Kavekini Tanivanuakula, who dived over the line, but the effort was ruled out after officials deemed the final pass forward.
Great Britain responded late in the first half, scoring to level the match before Apete Rarogo restored Fiji’s advantage with a crucial tries, helping his side take a 14-7 lead.
Bose added Fiji’s first try of the second half as the team made the most of its attacking opportunities, following the game plan laid out by coach Osea Kolinisau.
Rarogo was later shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle, allowing Great Britain to take advantage of the extra player and reduce the deficit.
However, Fiji regained momentum once Rarogo returned to the field.
The winger made amends by scoring his third try of the match in the closing stages to seal a convincing 26-12 victory.
Fiji will face South Africa at 9.06pm tonight in their final pool match.
The men's Cup quarter-finals are scheduled to begin at 3.28am tommorow,with the finals at 3.41am on Monday.
