The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side will face the USA in the third place playoff after going down 22-14 to Australia in the semi finals of the HSBC SVNS New York 7s.
Australia started strong, scoring two tries in the first four minutes to lead 12-0.
Fiji continued to put pressure on the Australians, and came out with a try to Mariana Talatoka, who sliced through Australia’s defence from their 22 metre line.
Australia did not gave up as they scored another try through Teagan Levi to lead 17-7 at halftime.
Fiji’s defence stood tall in the second half as they continued to put pressure on the Australians.
They capitlised on Australia’s mistakes and Ana Maria Naimasi went over the try line to close the gap to 17-14.
Australia managed to pull themselves together and Madison Ashby scored a try to extend their lead to 22-14.
Fiji will face the USA at 8.16 this morning.
New Zealand will face Australia at 9.14am in the women’s cup final.
