Jone Vakarisi and three others who were allegedly found with marijuana

Jone Vakarisi and three others who were allegedly found with marijuana have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them, while one man has pleaded guilty.

Vakarisi, Sekove Tikoiserea, Paula Draunidalo, Nikotimo Vasuturaga, Jokini Deni and Elia Marau are charged after they were allegedly found with 139.6 grams of marijuana in Lakeba, Lau, on the 23rd of June this year.

Marau pleaded guilty to a charge of being in possession of illicit drugs.

When asked by the court if he was coerced into doing this, Marau confirmed that he pleaded guilty of his own free will.

A bench warrant has been issued against Vasuturaga for failing to appear in court.

When questioned, Vakarisi informed the court that he is currently in Kadavu.

The prosecution has been ordered to clarify the charges against the six, as one of them has pleaded guilty.

The matter has been adjourned to the 20th of January next year to fix a hearing date.
