Two market vegetable stalls along Dabea Lane Nasinu have been identified between 2024 and 2025 as operating in red light zones, with both found selling drugs during police raids.
Speaking to fijivillage News, Nasinu Town Council Manager Community Services, Tevita Tawake, confirmed that the operators of the two stalls have been charged with drug-related offences.
He explains that once police confirm other illegal activities at the remaining stalls and the Council receives a demolition order from the court, those stalls will be removed.
Tawake adds that the Council is working closely with police this festive season to increase patrols, particularly at night, to deter youth from loitering and engaging in illegal activities.

In addition, he says that all crossway roads where drug needles were found and pickpocketing incidents were reported, have been closed off.
Tawake emphasises that the Council is also engaging loitering youths through training and empowerment programmes, adding that 50 youths will participate in community activities such as cleaning drains and helping to construct church footpaths.
He emphasises that the Council’s 2026 plans also include installing 40 cameras in the hotspot areas that will help identify more crime in Nasinu.
Tawake urges members of the public to report any suspicious activity to the Valelevu Police Station or take a photo and send it to the Nasinu Town Council.
