The case where 23-year-old Lagani Rabukawaqa and 25-year-old Saimoni Macedru, who allegedly committed a robbery outside Raiwai Top Shop earlier this month have been remanded in custody and the case has been transferred to the Suva High Court.
They appeared before Suva Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this morning.
The 50-year-old victim was waiting for a bus when the two allegedly assaulted him and took his watch and $9.
Rabukawaqa, through the Legal Aid Commission sought bail, saying he wishes to study at Polytech, which starts on 19 January.
Defence counsel Tobia Ravuniwa says Rabukawaqa denied the charges during his caution interview, stating that he was at home with his sister on the morning of the alleged incident.
Ravuniwa says that Rabukawaqa promises to appear in court and maintain good character.
Police Prosecutor Sharon Prasad objected to bail, stating that it is a serious offence and that no documentation was provided to prove Rabukawaqa’s intention to attend school.
Meanwhile, Macedru has opted to represent himself.
Both men will appear in the High Court on 16 January.
