Despite having some niggling injuries, Tavite Batidegei of Sacred Heart College won gold in the Senior Boys 1,500 metres race at the Coca-Cola Suva Zone 1.
He says this is his first year participating in the senior grade, and he did not believe he could win the race because he was running with some athletes who took part in last year's Coca-Cola Games.
Batidegei says he was training for the AFL Fiji team, which he used as off-season training.
He adds that he faced a few challenges, such as injuries during their training, and sometimes he had to ask his friends to help him with his bus fare.
He dedicated his gold medal win to his parents, who always support him in his endeavours.
Looking at other results, MGM's Gladness Simpson won gold in the Senior Girls, George Filipo of CMF won the Intermediate Boys, while Anna Camassei of International School Suva won the Intermediate Girls. Ropate Rokoua of William Cross High School won gold in the Sub-Junior boy.
