Slow improvement in Nadi Back Road flooding; Residents warned of high tide

Residents along Nadi Back Road are reporting ongoing flooding, with water levels slowly receding but significant inundation still affecting homes and roads.

Ritika Sharma, who lives in the area, says her family had shifted household items onto higher ground and placed blocks around the house to protect against rising water.

Sharma says it is slowly getting back to normal, but this afternoon at 5pm a huge tree fell near their home.

She confirmed that EFL had disconnected the wires, and there is still no information on when power will return, with the outage ongoing since morning.

Sharma notes that while conditions have improved, high tide around 10pm could worsen flooding in low-lying areas.

Nabitu Advisory Councillor Abhay Sharma says their farms are also waterlogged, with significant damage to recently planted seedlings.

He says they had just planted following the floods brought by TC Urmil and are now witnessing their farms being destroyed yet again.

Sharma adds its raining heavily while the wind is gusting.

Meanwhile, authorities have issued flood warnings for areas adjacent to and downstream of the Tuva River in Ba, the Votualevu and Nawaka Rivers in Lautoka, and the Town Bridge River in Nadi.

A heavy rain warning remains in force for the entire Fiji group, while a flash flood warning is active for Viti Levu, and a flash flood alert covers the rest of the country.

A strong wind warning also remains in effect for all land areas of Fiji.

Residents are urged to avoid floodwaters, take precautions to safeguard property, and follow updates from the Fiji Meteorological Service.
