Electricity restored in parts of Lautoka as winds ease and rain weakens

Electricity is now back on in parts of Lautoka, while the rain has begun to weaken.

Poate Matairavula says winds are easing and the rain stopped after 9 tonight along Tavakubu Road.

He adds that low-lying areas are still flooded and may require assistance.

Matairavula says electricity was restored before 10.30pm, and he remains hopeful that conditions will continue to improve as Category 3 Tropical Cyclone Vaianu moves away from Fiji.

Meanwhile, Setareki Raiyawa in Paipai, Vitogo in Lautoka says conditions are now much better compared to earlier in the day.

He says strong winds and heavy rain persisted until 5pm before easing, but from 5pm to around 10pm, conditions remained unstable with intermittent strong winds and rain.
