Minister for Public Enterprises and Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts Charan Jeath Singh says the current government should not be blamed for the rising cost of living.
Singh made the comment in response to the President’s address in Parliament.
He also told MPs that if they do not like the President, they should move out.

The Speaker of Parliament, Filimoni Jitoko asked whether the observation was relevant, and Singh responded that it is relevant, saying that MPs don't have respect.
The Speaker then asked Singh to keep away from that observation, saying members do have respect for the President.
Singh replied that he wanted to create a bit of drama before he starts.
He then addressed the cost of living issue mentioned by the President, saying several speakers have talked about it, and that the country is going through prices that are out of the roof.
He questioned why the 16 years of the previous government was not being discussed in relation to the issue.
The Minister says Fiji is at the receiving end when it comes to prices because the country imports most of its goods, and that even products manufactured locally rely heavily on imported raw materials.
He says that global conflicts also affect prices, and that even today, with the Iran-US war and the Ukraine-Russia war, Fiji does not have control over prices.

Singh says the President has outlined a clear vision for the nation based on unity, responsible leadership and inclusive development.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for the confidence placed in him to serve as Minister for Public Enterprises and Minister responsible for Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts.
He says the integration of the portfolios presents an opportunity to strengthen both the social and economic pillars of national development.
He adds that social cohesion does not happen by chance; it must be nurtured through inclusive policies, community engagement and respect for cultural diversity.
Singh says the Ministry’s work is focused on strengthening the bonds that unite people while promoting culture, heritage and arts and ensuring that every region, regardless of ethnicity, faith or background, feels respected, valued and included in the national agenda.
