Self-trained Burese breaks own high jump record at Suva Zone 1

Self-trained Burese breaks own high jump record at Suva Zone 1

Self-trained athlete Peter Burese of Sacred Heart College broke his own record that he set last year in the Senior Boys High Jump and leaped his way into the record books at the Coca-Cola Suva Zone 1 meet today.

Burese, who hails from Ba, cleared a height of 2 metres, breaking the 1.95 metres set last year.

He shared with fijivillage Sports the struggles he had to overcome because he had no coaches to give him proper training and guide him, but it was his faith in God that kept him going.

Burese, who shares maternal links to Waisomo Village in Kadavu, says the win is dedicated to his family and his teachers, and he is confident of improving at the Coca-Cola Games.

When asked whether he can improve on his jump, Burese says nothing is impossible and he will try his best to break the record.
