The bail variation application for Thakor Punja, who is seeking to travel to Australia for spinal surgery and disc replacement, has been dismissed.
Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad stated in court that the treatment is not essential and does not need to be carried out overseas.
State witness and CWM Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr Luke Nasedra informed Magistrate Prasad that while the operations are not available in Fiji, arrangements can be made with overseas consultants.
Punja's counsel argued he requires surgery after being involved in an accident in April last year.
He is charged with three counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs.
Punja was allegedly found with 0.84 grams of methamphetamine, 5.447 grams of cocaine and 6.6 grams of marijuana.
