The Government is calling for unity among landowners, institutions, and communities to ensure land and natural resources are used productively, sustainably, and in ways that respect custodianship, intergenerational equity, and long-term resilience.
While opening the 2026 session of Parliament this morning, President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu says development must align with inclusive national priorities, particularly in agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, housing, and energy industries, to create jobs, strengthen food and energy security, and expand economic opportunities.
Ratu Naiqama says progress will rely on strong collaboration between landowners, government, the private sector, and development partners, grounded in transparency and trust.
He also urged traditional leaders to take a proactive role in guiding communities, safeguarding culture, and ensuring responsible use of land and marine resources.
The President says the Government will prioritise macroeconomic stability through prudent fiscal management, debt reduction, public finance reforms, and strengthened transparency.

He adds that the private sector will be supported through simplified investment processes, reduced regulatory burdens, and expanded access to finance, particularly for SMEs, cooperatives, women, and youth.
Ratu Naiqama also stated that in the sugar sector, priorities include mechanisation, strengthening cane production, renewable energy generation, and exploring value-added products such as ethanol and refined sugar, alongside plans for a modern sugar mill.
He adds that the Government will also continue the sustainable management of fisheries and forestry, promote marine conservation, enhance enforcement, modernise legislation, and ensure landowners benefit.
