Online Safety Commissioner Filipe Batiwale and Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa

As online abuse is expected to increase as we get closer to next year’s election, Online Safety Commissioner Filipe Batiwale says they will coordinate with the Fijian Elections Office to address online safety in today’s evolving digital world.

Batiwale says technology influences even the smallest decisions in our lives, highlighting the responsibility of both the Commission and the media in ensuring accurate information reaches those affected, especially with decisions, consequences, and actions taking place online.

He also says it’s vital to protect electoral integrity and maintain public confidence in the election process.

Batiwale adds with the rise of digital platforms, coordinated efforts are more important than ever in promoting online safety and protecting all Fijians.

Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa says they will monitor harmful content on the digital platforms and act quickly when they identify it.

Mataiciwa says they will also run joint campaigns to help citizens identify misinformation, and will share knowledge on digital safety and how to enforce it.
