The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side went down 31-12 to Argentina in their opening match of the HSBC SVNS New York 7s this morning.
Argentina started strongly, scoring three tries in the first four minutes to take a 19-0 lead.
Fiji fought back with tries from Terio Veilawa and Vuiviwa Naduvalo to cut the deficit to 19-12 at halftime.
However, Argentina kept possession for most of the second half and ran in two more tries through Marcos Moneta and Juan Patricio Batac to seal the win.
Fiji will face Great Britain at 4:56am before taking on Spain at 8:14am in their final pool match.
The Cup semi-finals will begin at 4:28am tomorrow, while the Cup final is scheduled for 8:41am.
