In a home where three generations live side by side under one roof, leadership is learned early, and for Shreya Pal, that foundation has carried her to becoming Head Girl of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School for 2026.
Raised in an extended family household with her grandmother, uncle, his wife and children, along with her own parents and two older siblings, Pal describes her appointment as a proud moment for both herself and her family.

She says balancing leadership with academics requires structure and discipline.
She has followed a timetable since primary school and tries to stick to it every day; however, she admits there are sometimes bad or lazy days.
She adds that her teachers also play an important role in keeping her focused on her studies.
The Head Girl says wearing the badge comes with responsibility and challenges.

To her fellow prefects, her message is that leadership is about responsibility, not status.
She is urging them to uphold their duties at all times and not show bias toward other students.
She says the position is not for decoration, but a reminder of their capabilities and the trust placed in them by teachers.
Ensuring that students concerns are properly addressed is another priority for the Head Girl, and she has revealed plans to introduce a structured complaint system within the school.
She says if students have concerns or feel they are being mistreated, they will be able to submit a complaint to the prefect body.
When questioned about wider social issues affecting young people, the Year 13 student has expressed concern about the rising drug and HIV cases, and is urging other students and teenagers to think carefully about their choices.

She says it is disappointing to see students her age becoming involved in drug-related issues, which not only affect their lives but also disrupt their families’ lives.
Looking ahead, she already has her future mapped out; she plans to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting next year while gaining practical experience so she can become a chartered accountant.
From a loving family home to the highest student leadership role at MGM High School, Shreya Pal’s journey reflects discipline, patience and ambition, qualities she now hopes to use in guiding her school through 2026.
Meanwhile, a total of 186 students were officially inducted into leadership roles during the investiture ceremony.
