The Lautoka City Council won the award for the Large Municipality Clean and Green Town Excellence award last night.
Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala says since its inception in 2011 the aim has been to ensure that all municipality councils are environmentally clean, sustainable and safe.
Bala says that he has noted a lot of effort and work put in by the councils to progress and upgrade the state and cleanliness of the central business districts.
He commends the councils on their efforts and also challenges them that there is room for improvement and hopes that they will be working on that in 2016.
Meanwhile, Tavua won the title for Small Municipality Clean and Green Town Excellence award and Savusavu won the Medium Municipality Clean and Green Town Excellence award.
