Taking education to the doorstep of every child in Lau is a key priority for the Lau Education Charitable Trust.
This was announced during the soft launch of its charity ball, scheduled for August 2026.
The announcement was made by the Trust’s Patron, Adi Elenoa Tuilau Mara, at the Grand Pacific Hotel.
Adi Mara says the initiative is a call for unity, service and commitment to the children of Lau, particularly those living in maritime communities.
She says that since its establishment five years ago, the Trust has grown from a grassroots vision into an internationally recognised movement.
Adi Mara explains that the Trust’s mission is to improve access to quality education, ensuring that every child in Lau can reach their full potential as both Fijian and global citizens.
She says that to date, the Trust has delivered more than 100 tonnes of school supplies, supporting over 90 schools.
It has assisted 45 early childhood centres, 46 primary schools, and five secondary schools across 22 islands.
Adi Mara adds that, through a partnership with SolarBuddy, nearly 5,000 solar study lamps have been distributed to students in need.
She adds that more than $500,000 in total assistance has been delivered to schools in Lau and Taveuni over the past four years.
She emphasised that the Trust’s theme, Ua Ni Cagi, meaning “The Current of the Wind,” symbolises the quiet yet powerful force that brings life, hope and positive change to communities.
