Former Suva lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef will be sentenced on Monday after he was convicted for the unlawful possession of 9.5 grams of methamphetamine and 3.5 grams of marijuana on 9th May 2019.
The sentencing was initially scheduled for tomorrow.
Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne found Lateef guilty of two counts of unlawful possession of illicit drugs in Suva.
State witness in the matter, Asenaca Balekatuba told the court that Lateef requested to meet her, and upon going to a hotel room, Lateef opened a briefcase which contained methamphetamine.
She says that after a few minutes, police officers entered the room, searched it, and seized the drugs.
Magistrate Somaratne earlier said that according to the evidence and witness statements, he was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Lateef was in possession of unlawful drugs.
