Jamie George announces retirement at end of 2026–27 season

Former England rugby captain Jamie George has confirmed that he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the 2026–2027 season after signing a one-year contract extension with Saracens.

The 35-year-old hooker revealed that this will be his final contract in his illustrious career.

George, who captained England in 2024 has been a key figure in the team since his debut in 2015, earning 105 international caps.

During his time with England, he won three Six Nations titles and played a crucial role in reaching the 2019 Rugby World Cup final, as well as featuring in the semi-finals of the 2023 tournament.

He was also selected for three British & Irish Lions tours.

At the club level, George has spent his entire professional career with Saracens, making over 300 appearances across 17 years.

He has helped the club secure six Premiership titles and three European Champions Cups, cementing his place as one of Saracens’ most successful players.

Speaking about his decision to announce his retirement early, George shares his desire to “soak up every moment” of his final season.

He also emphasizes his motivation to finish his career at Saracens with success.

He says that he is more motivated than ever to finish his career at Saracens in a successful way.
