India is confident that their partnership with Fiji will continue to flourish as India’s expertise in renewable energy, digital technologies, and climate resilience offers numerous opportunities for cooperation with Fiji.
This has been highlighted by Indian High Commissioner to Fiji Suneet Mehta during India's 77th Republic Day celebrations where he says India’s success with UPI and Aadhaar presents potential models for Fiji to modernize services and infrastructure, which could support Fiji’s growth and development.
He says India remains committed to multilateralism and regional cooperation, and will continue working with Fiji and other Pacific nations on security, economic growth, and climate resilience through forums such as the United Nations and the Pacific Islands Forum.
Mehta says he is glad Fiji is a member of International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance and most recently Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.
While reaffirming India’s strong commitment to Fiji and the Pacific region, the High Commissioner adds together, they will build a future that is brighter, more prosperous, and more inclusive for the peoples.
Meanwhile, Fiji's Chief of Protocol Kiti Temo highlighted the shared history and cultural ties that bind the two countries.
She praised the strong framework of democracy in both nations and expressed Fiji's gratitude for India's continued assistance and goodwill.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo, Minister for iTaukei Affairs Ifereimi Vasu former Prime Minister and Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry, National Federation Party leader and MP Professor Biman Prasad and members of the diplomatic corps were also present for the celebrations.
