iTaukei Affairs Trust Fund provides $286,000 funding for the Great Council of Chiefs meeting in Bau

The iTaukei Affairs Trust Fund will cover the cost of the 2-day meeting of the Great Council of Chiefs meeting with a funding of $286,000, including all the logistical costs of the meeting and the renovation of the meeting house in Bau, Ulunivuaka which costs $97,000.

Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu says 99% of the preparation for the meeting has been completed.

He says the cabinet approved on the 9th of May the iTaukei Affairs (GCC) regulations 2023 which will also give the meeting a legal basis.

He adds that the regulation lists four categories of membership with three ex-officio members and the President, Prime Minister, and the Minister for iTaukei Affairs.

Vasu says the Minister may invite 6 members of the provincial council and also invite 3 chiefs from each province and three members from the council of Rotuma to represent the chiefs of Rotuma.

The GCC meeting will be held next Wednesday and Thursday on Bau Island.
