Minister for Commerce and Business Development, Esrom Immanuel has welcomed the recent decision by the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission to delay the planned electricity tariff increase and instead launch a 21-day public consultation process.
Immanuel believes that the FCCC’s choice to engage in a 21-day consultation highlights the importance of listening to the people’s concerns.
He is encouraging the public, businesses, and MSMEs to participate in large numbers, share their opinions, and contribute positively to the conversation about electricity tariffs.
He further adds that through this process of consultation, transparency, and 'talanoa', meaningful and balanced solutions can be achieved.
The Minister emphasises that public involvement is essential to good governance, and this consultation provides an opportunity for Fijians from all sectors to voice their opinions, raise concerns, and suggest ideas.
He also assures that the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development is ready to support the FCCC throughout this consultation process and encourages all stakeholders to actively participate during the 21-day period.
Immanuel believes that cooperation between regulators, the public, and businesses will lead to informed decisions that will benefit the entire nation.
He highlighted that energy costs are a crucial concern for both households and businesses.
The Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring electricity remains affordable and accessible while fostering sustainable energy development and a stable economic environment.
