The Suva Magistrates Court has granted bail to former MP Simione Rasova to travel to Australia to attend the Liberal Party’s Campaign Summer School and International Program from Wednesday to Saturday.

Rasova, who is the General Secretary of SODELPA, has been invited by the Liberal Party of Australia.

The Magistrate informed the court that Rasova’s passport should be released to him after he pays a bail bond of $2,500.

The Stop Departure Order issued against Rasova will be lifted and the Department of Immigration is to be notified immediately.

Rasova was told that he must return his passport to the Criminal Court Registry before the 9th of February.

He was also informed that the Stop Departure Order against him will be reinstated on the 6th of February.

Rasova is charged with one count of providing false information to a public servant, allegedly lying about his residence, and obtaining a financial gain.

It is alleged that Rasova falsely stated that his permanent place of residence was in Nasenivolau, Nabouwalu village, Ono, Kadavu and obtained $21,350 in parliamentary allowances between July 2019 and April 2020.

The case will be called again on the 9th of February for a no case to answer ruling.
