The Flame Tree Waimanu 7’s Rugby Tournament is back for its third edition this week at the HFC Bank Stadium, with the theme of giving back to the community and staying free from drugs.

Tournament Director Alipate Navuso says that their aim is to provide a positive environment for youth, steering them away from negative influences such as drugs and alcohol.

He says that this year’s tournament will feature 24 teams, including development squads from local villages and top Fiji sides such as Nakavika Rugby, St Gabriel, Vuna Brothers Rugby Club, Bula Brothers Rugby, Marist Rugby Club, and Nakovura Rugby Team.

Navuso says that the pools and draws for the competition will be released tomorrow.

He says the tournament will continue to focus on youth development, bringing together young players from the districts of Vuna and the villages of Sawani, Navatuvula, and Colo i Suva.

Navuso says another key goal is to revive and strengthen local rugby traditions.

He adds that this is particularly through the Waimanu Rugby Team, which has historically produced talented players in both Fiji and Naitasiri.

Navuso says that the tournament seeks to bridge the gap between past and current generations, ensuring the continuation of the region’s rich rugby legacy.

He has expressed his gratitude to sponsors and supporters who have helped make the tournament possible.

The organiser says he hopes to build on the successes of 2023 and make this year’s edition a memorable one for players, fans, and the community.

The Flame Tree Waimanu 7’s Rugby Tournament is on this Friday and Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
