As the Fiji Water Flying Fijians continue their preparations for their next match against Wales on Monday, fijivillage News has picked a few players who are expected to retain their positions in the starting XV after their impressive performance last week against Scotland despite going down 57-17.

Captain Tevita Ikanivere led from the front last weekend with 14 good carries and was on par with both attack and defence.

The livewire hooker was awarded with a try for his hard work.

Number 8 Elia Canakaivata was also a force to be reckoned with as he made 17 carries and beat 2 defenders.

Canakaivata made 15 tackles and completed 13 of them.

Flanker Kitione Salawa was also in top form as he made 33 metres in 10 carries and beat 2 defenders.

In defence, Salawa made 17 tackles, missed only two and also won 2 turnovers.

In the backline, rookie wingers Vuate Karawalevu and Ponipate Loganimasi were impressive, especially with ball handling.

Karawalevu had some great catches under the high ball and even came close to scoring a try after recollecting a high ball from their own kickoff.

Loganimasi came off his wing well throughout the match and had a lovely step and offload to set up Fiji’s first try through young Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula.

And now with the Northern Hemisphere-based players joining camp this week, coach Mick Byrne will have a tough time selecting his matchday 23 squad that will be looking to take revenge over Wales after their heartbreaking loss in last year’s Rugby World Cup.

The Flying Fijians will take on Wales at 1.40am Monday at the Millennium Stadium.
