Fiji Sports Council Board Acting Vice Chair Peter Mazey

Fiji Sports Council Board Acting Vice Chair Peter Mazey says they are looking at an investigation team to go through all the allegations levelled against CEO, Gilbert Vakalalabure.

Mazey says the reason they have been taking some time is because they have to go through all the terms of reference for the investigation.

He says for the investigation team, they had to go out to everybody because they want it totally independent, and to ensure there is no conflict of interest, which is the biggest issue in Fiji because we are all related.

The Acting Vice Chair says at the moment, there are two companies they are considering.

He says one is an Australian-based company with local offices, and the other one is a local company.

Mazey says they are going through final negotiations on that, and the board will be meeting again tomorrow.

He says the investigation team will be paid by the Fiji Sports Council for the best price possible and he assures that it is not like the COI or the commission that costs millions.

He says it will be less than $50,000.

When questioned on whether Fiji Sports Council CEO Gilbert Vakalalabure will have to vacate his position while the investigation takes place, Mazey says that has not been decided or discussed at this time, but it will be considered exactly as the Prime Minister suggested last night.

Mazey adds that he knows that the CEO was planning to go on annual leave in the next week or so.
